Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute is seeking someone to conduct investigations while maintaining consistency with guidelines established by Department Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).  This position would be responsible for conducting investigations at Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute (NVMHI) and at Northern Virginia Training Center (NVTC). Some of the duties include investigating events of potential abuse and/or neglect, performing risk management and administrative reviews, taking the lead in investigations when paired with another investigator, maintaining documentation associated with investigations and reviews, providing written reports and responses within a designated timeframe, investigating complaints that are initiated by individuals we serve, sitting on the policy and procedure committee, and ad hoc projects. 

 

The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skill along with a keen attention to detail, and a high degree of initiative.  He/She will have the ability to utilize investigative and information gathering techniques, to coordinate and disseminate data, and to objectively formulate logical, reasonable conclusions and recommendations.  Along with having the ability to adjust work schedules when needed in order to conduct interviews on evening (2nd) and night (3rd) shifts, and have knowledge of DBHDS, NVMHI, and NVTC policies and procedures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

        Recent training and work experience in conducting investigations required preferably in conducting administrative investigations outside of criminal investigations.

        Experience in the investigative process and report writing required. 

        Experience with Microsoft Word required. Experience in data collection, evaluation, manipulation and presentation strongly preferred.

        Bachelorís degree or law enforcement certification preferred, preferably in a health-care related field or related; work experience may be substituted for education.

        Certification by DBHDS Office of Quality Health Services in conducting patient abuse investigations is required by the next time training is offered after employment.

 

 

This position opened on 3/26/14 with a minimum five-day posting requirement.A fingerprint-based criminal history check and pre-employment drug screening will be required of the selected candidate.
