NVMHI is seeking a Payroll Officer who is responsible for the Payroll and Employee Timekeeping Operations for NVMHI. This position ensures the accurate preparation and disbursement of the payroll including compensation and benefits for both salaried and wage employees. It is also responsible for the accurate withholding and reporting of Federal, multiple State and local taxes and employee compensation on a timely basis and providing appropriate information to employees regarding pay and benefits. For employee timekeeping operations it ensures that the Employee Leave Coordinator is properly trained and is maintaining accurate employee leave records for all Hospital Staff. This position supervises the Payroll Assistant and the Employee Leave Coordinator and provides backup for other Fiscal Department supervisors and staff, as needed. Some of the duties include processing payroll semi-monthly, coordinating worker’s compensation and disability compensation, preparing payroll and tax reports, and reconciling and preparing monthly health and benefit billings.
The successful candidate will have strong communication and customer service skills, demonstrating the behaviors that support NVMHI’s mission, vision, and values. The candidate will be detail oriented, have strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, prepare routine financial support and statements, analyze payroll transactions to ensure compliance with tax regulations, Fair Labor Standards Act, and policies and procedures.
Prior work experience using the Commonwealth of Virginia's CIPPS computerized payroll processing system is required. Demonstrated work experience using an automated timekeeping software program required. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office spreadsheets and word processing applications are required. Prior work experience using the Kronos Employee Timekeeping software strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Access database strongly preferred. Graduation from college or university with degree in accounting or related field or equivalent work experience strongly preferred.
