Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute is seeking
someone to provide recreation therapy and psychosocial education rehab
activities that are responsive to the social, physical and emotional &
cognitive recreational needs of our patient population. Responsibilities
include providing a well-coordinated program of recreational therapy activities
which will enable patients to function independently in the community. Knowledge of the principles, techniques and
methods of recreation therapy and of basic statistics required. Knowledge of
the kinds of usage of recreation therapy materials and equipment required. Ability to stimulate and sustain interests of patient’s recreation
therapy activities as well as the ability to evaluate & report patient progress.
Ability to work with and guide other employees, students and
volunteers. Ability to safely operate a state owned motor vehicle to
transport patients for community outings.
Graduation from accredited college or university with major studies in
Therapeutic Recreation/Recreation Therapy required. Certification as a
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), by the National Council of
Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) required within a year of
employment in this position and maintained throughout employment. Valid driver’s license required. The hours are mainly day shift but some evening, weekend,
and holiday hours are required. Salary range begins at $37,000 and is
negotiable based on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
