We are looking for a psychologist with experience and interest in applying evidence-based treatment approaches to the treatment of chronic and severe mental illness to join our dynamic clinical team. Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute serves a diverse population in the Northern Virginia region and leads the region in the promotion of hope and recovery for individuals who have mental illness. Unit Psychologists work as part of an interdisciplinary team supporting the recovery of adults with severe mental illness in an inpatient setting. Duties include participating in differential diagnosis and treatment planning and providing evaluation, treatment (group, individual, family), and consultation services. Unit Psychologists also play a lead role in the case management and treatment of forensic patients.

The successful candidate will have training and ongoing interest in the application of cognitive-behavioral strategies to the treatment of a range of disorders. Opportunities for participation in research, training, and ongoing individual and peer clinical supervision are available in the context of quality patient centered care.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology and knowledge of theories of pathology and principles of psychotherapy required. Previous experience in inpatient settings, knowledge of forensic mental health services and previous experience employing behavioral and cognitive-behavioral therapies for the treatment of major mental disorders strongly preferred. VA license as Clinical Psychologist strongly preferred. Expertise in the treatment of trauma history strongly preferred.

This position opened on 5/1/08 with a minimum five-day posting requirement. A fingerprint-based criminal history check and pre-employment drug screening will be required of the selected candidate.
