Mental Health Facility
Director
The
Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse
Services (DMHMRSAS) is seeking an accomplished professional to effectively lead
the Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute (NVMHI), a JCAHO accredited 129
bed psychiatric hospital located in historic Fairfax County, just across the
scenic Potomac River from the nation's capital, Washington DC.
In an
environment that is informed by recovery principles, NVMHI serves individuals
on acute admission/intensive treatment units, as well as intermediate care and
community reintegration units. A major
function of this position is to create an environment that enables both staff
and the persons served to achieve the best outcomes, and that fosters
collaboration among all facility stakeholders including persons served, their
families, staff, community based consumers, regional providers, and advocates.
This position has management responsibilities to assure effective and efficient
hospital operations including inpatient clinical services, administrative,
finance, human resources, performance improvement, risk management, human
rights compliance, legal affairs, and public relations. The position requires active participation in
all aspects of regional planning for the delivery of publicly funded mental
health services.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must have
extensive progressive experience in the administration of comprehensive mental
health clinical programs and demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities
in: providing inpatient psychiatric
services for persons with mental illness; directing MH professionals from
varied disciplines to provide treatment that is recovery informed and evidence
based; managing clinical, administrative and business operations of a MH
facility; directing the work of technical and administrative staff; leading and
effectively collaborating with a network
of diverse groups and public/private community based treatment programs and
providers and using data to plan, implement, and evaluate programs and
operations. The successful candidate
must also demonstrate through previous work experience an ability to provide
leadership and effectively communicate with patients, consumers, their
families, all levels of facility staff, and community based providers. A graduate or postgraduate degree in a
clinical discipline is preferred; mental health facility management and
administration is preferred.
NVMHI is a
