Northern Virginia Mental
Health Institute is seeking someone to provide group activities as part of the
overall therapeutic program offered to individuals receiving treatment for
serious mental illness. Some of the duties include providing programming with
music therapy interventions focused on improving self-expression, coping and problem
solving skills and personal relationships, documenting on programming provided,
reviewing effectiveness of programs, and maintaining supplies and materials.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of principles, practice, and
materials of music therapy, the ability to stimulate and sustain interest of
individuals in therapeutic treatment activities, and the ability to work
collaboratively with other employees, students and volunteers.
Graduation from an accredited
college or university with major studies in music therapy or equivalent work
experience in MT strongly preferred.
Completion of an internship as a music therapist or equivalent work
experience strongly preferred. Experience working with individuals with
mental/behavioral health issues in a clinical setting as an employee or intern
preferred. Certification by the Certification Board for Music Therapist
preferred.
The
work hours are 8:00am-4:45pm three days a week and 9:30am-6:15pm two days a
week with some weekends and holidays required. Starting at salary range begins
at $36,000. The position opened on 2/6/13
